Aftercare

How to look after your new tattoo so it heals sharp and stays that way.

These are general guidelines. Always follow the instructions Dylan gives you on the day, which take priority over anything here. [Replace with Dylan’s own aftercare steps and the products he recommends.]

The first day

  • Leave the wrap on for as long as Dylan tells you: [time].
  • Wash your hands, then gently wash the tattoo with lukewarm water and a mild, unscented soap. Pat dry with a clean paper towel.
  • Let it air dry, then apply a thin layer of the aftercare product Dylan recommends.

The first two weeks

  • Wash two or three times a day and keep the layer of balm thin. Too much can suffocate the skin.
  • Don’t pick or scratch the flaking skin. Let it fall away on its own.
  • Wear loose, clean clothes over the area and sleep on clean sheets.

Water and sun

No swimming, surfing, baths, spas or saunas until it’s fully healed, usually around [2 to 4] weeks. That includes the ocean. Keep it out of direct sun while it heals, then use a high SPF sunscreen on it for life. Sun is the biggest reason realism fades.

When to get help

Some redness, swelling and tenderness in the first few days is normal. If you notice spreading redness, heat, pus, a fever or pain that gets worse instead of better, see a doctor and let Dylan know.

Healed photos

At around eight weeks, Dylan will ask for a healed photo in good natural light. If anything needs a touch-up, [touch-up policy].
